The PFD has been informed by the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) regarding a concerning matter where hearing individuals are taking over the role of teaching sign languages or conducting research on national sign languages. This exclusion of deaf individuals from participating in activities related to their own language is deemed unacceptable and runs counter to established guidelines for working with minority language communities.

As a result, the WFD has issued a Position Paper on Research and Teaching in National Sign Languages, with the aim of emphasizing the critical importance of deaf-led teaching and research work on national sign languages.  The Position Paper serves as a valuable resource for promoting greater awareness and understanding of this issue.

The Position Paper is available in both English and International Sign versions and provides a comprehensive overview of the issue at hand.
